Ambrose Baltes was a pillar of backstage brilliance at Boise Little Theater, contributing his talents over more than two decades as a technician, stage manager, actor, and leader. Serving as President during the 1983–84 season, Ambrose brought a hands-on, can-do spirit to every role he filled—often quite literally building the shows from the ground up.
His behind-the-scenes expertise included set design, construction, and stage management for a remarkable range of productions, from The Desperate Hours, Play It Again, Sam, and Romantic Comedy, to grand musicals like The Pirates of Penzance and Anything Goes. He was a constant presence backstage, ensuring each show ran smoothly and looked its best.
Onstage, Ambrose made memorable appearances in productions such as Night of the Iguana, Harvey (earning a Best Supporting Actor tie), The Time of Your Life, and The Runner Stumbles. He had a flair for portraying colorful and comedic characters—bringing both depth and levity to his roles.
Ambrose’s leadership extended to board service, technical direction, and organizing volunteer efforts like the picnic committee and house management. Whether managing patron tickets or assisting as a director, his commitment to BLT was tireless and infectious.
With a legacy that includes countless built sets, managed productions, and characters brought to life, Ambrose Baltes embodied the heart of community theater: skilled, generous, and always ready to jump in. His work left a lasting impact on Boise Little Theater’s stage and the many people who worked alongside him.
