CARES (Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security) Act extended for 2021! This law offers remarkable incentives for those who are able to give to nonprofits like Boise Little Theater that are facing economic hardship during the coronavirus pandemic. For the rest of 2021, you can reap the tax benefits of the CARES Act while making a memorable impact on Boise Little Theater.
Talk to your financial advisor on how you might decrease taxes and benefit by:
- Donating the cash from the capital loss realized by selling depreciated securities that have declined in value below their cost.
- Avoid capital gains taxes by using the cash proceeds from a capital loss to offset the gain on the sale of appreciated assets to make a charitable gift.
- Eliminate taxation of ordinary income by donating the sale proceeds of appreciated securities, even though you would recognize a capital gain.
If you itemize your deductions, the CARE Act allows for cash contributions to qualified public charities like Boise Little Theater (not to a donor-advised fund or non-operating private foundations) to be deducted up to 100% of adjusted gross income (AGI)! Do you take the standard deduction? The CARES Act allows all taxpayers to take a charitable deduction of up to $300, even if they do not itemize, thus your AGI will be reduced by up to $300 -and you can still claim the standard deduction!
Consult your advisors today about the numerous provisions included in the CARES Act that could benefit you financially.
