Show synopsis: The story of Mary Mallon, known better as Typhoid Mary, in her battle to escape imprisonment by the New York Health Department.

If callbacks are needed they will be held the next day, 1/25. Please note that stage age of the characters is to help describe the role only and that all characters must be portrayed with the gender as written, actual age and gender of the actor is irrelevant.

CAST
MARY MALLON (“Typhoid Mary”)
Stage Age: 35–50, Female
She’s stubborn, fiercely independent, and in deep denial about her role in spreading typhoid fever. She challenges authority, mistrusts science, and refuses to see herself as a threat even when faced with evidence to the contrary. She sees her confinement as persecution, believing she’s healthy and fighting for her rights, while doctors see her as a public health threat.
DR. ANN SALTZER
Stage Age: 30–45, Female
Research Bacteriologist, Riverside Hospital. Intelligent, determined, and compassionate but also rigid in her scientific worldview. She sees Mary through the lens of medicine and duty, attempting to break through Mary’s stubborn denial with facts and empathy.
DR. WILLIAM MILLS
Stage Age: 40–60, Male
Administrator, Riverside Hospital. Practical, professional, and pragmatic, he balances patient care with institutional concerns. Focused on order, procedure, and the bigger picture of public health. He attempts to navigate the ethical and medical complexities of Mary’s case in a world of limited resources.
FATHER MICHAEL MCKUEN
Stage Age: 35–60, Male
Chaplain, St. Luke’s Church, Bronx. Visits Mary during her confinement to offers spiritual counsel and a different kind of reasoning than the doctors. He struggles with the theological questions raised by Mary’s situation, torn between his faith and the scientific facts.
SARAH
Stage Age: 7–12, Female. (To be played by an adult)
8 years old, a young girl who died from typhoid under Mary’s care, she appears to Mary as a spirit or memory.
