(1990-1991)
Helen Irwin’s contributions to Boise Little Theater spanned decades and encompassed nearly every aspect of production, leadership, and community engagement. Known for her passion for theater and her organizational skill, Helen played a vital role in shaping BLT’s productions and nurturing its volunteers.
Helen first joined BLT as Helen Garton, performing as Juror No. 5 in Twelve Angry Jurors (1976) and working on set construction for multiple shows that same year. She married fellow BLT member Jon Irwin in 1977. She soon expanded her contributions, serving as assistant director (The American Dream, 1976; The Fantasticks, 1977; Under the Yum Yum Tree, 1987) and taking on key acting roles in productions like The Monkey’s Paw playing Mrs.White, Boy Meets Girl playing Film Cutter, The Sunshine Boys playing Registered Nurse, and Come Blow Your Horn playing a visitor.
Her behind-the-scenes work was equally impactful. Helen assisted with properties for several shows, including the award-winning Cabaret (1987), and served as production secretary (Strange Snow, 1987). As a director, she led memorable productions such as I Ought to Be in Pictures (1990) and Love Letters (1993), and also contributed as a consulting director throughout the early 1990s.
Helen’s leadership extended to the boardroom as well — she served multiple terms as a board member, held the role of Board Secretary, chaired the Scholarship Committee, and ultimately led the organization as President for the 1990–91 season.
She was also a driving force behind BLT’s communications efforts, co-editing the Greenroom Gazette newsletter and helping produce the season brochure for 2007–08.
Through her acting, directing, technical support, and leadership, Helen Irwin left an enduring mark on Boise Little Theater. Her years of service reflect a deep commitment to building community through the performing arts.
