Jay Sherlock’s name is etched into Boise Little Theater history as a dynamic artist, tireless leader, and passionate storyteller. Across more than four decades, Jay contributed as a director, actor, board member, business manager, and behind-the-scenes volunteer—making his mark on every corner of the stage and the organization.

Jay made his directorial debut in 1960 with Laura, launching a prolific directing career that included productions such as Ladies in Retirement, Barefoot in the Park (Best Director tie), The Odd Couple (Female Version), Play It Again, Sam, Anything Goes, and many more. He was also honored as Supervising Director across several seasons, ensuring artistic excellence across the board.

As an actor, Jay lit up the stage in roles ranging from the lovable Elwood P. Dowd in Harvey (Best Lead Actor tie) to the hilariously neurotic Felix Ungar in The Odd Couple and the wise-cracking Willie Clark in The Sunshine Boys—both performances earning Best Lead Actor honors. Later in his career, he received back-to-back Best Cameo Actor awards for Noises Off and The Rainmaker.

Beyond his creative contributions, Jay served as BLT President (1965–66), Business Manager (1985–87), and held multiple terms as a Board Member and House Manager. He was active in publicity, script analysis, and nominations—never hesitating to step in wherever needed.

In 2002–03, Jay received the prestigious “Gold Key” award, recognizing his extraordinary service and enduring legacy.

Whether building a set, bringing a script to life, or guiding a production team, Jay Sherlock exemplified dedication, versatility, and a deep love for community theater. His impact continues to resonate through the many shows, artists, and audiences he helped shape.
