(1961-1962)

Lumir A. Gerner’s name is woven into the very fabric of Boise Little Theater history. Over more than three decades of service, Lumir filled nearly every role imaginable—director, actor, house manager, business manager, board member, and coordinator of past presidents. His enduring leadership and creative vision helped shape the theater’s identity and ensure its legacy.

Serving as President during the 1961–62 season, Lumir was also a longtime Business Manager, House Manager, and guiding member of the Script Committee. He was instrumental behind the scenes on countless productions and was often found greeting audiences, reviewing scripts, mentoring fellow volunteers, or managing ticket operations with his wife, a fellow BLT patron and partner in service.

As a director, Lumir helmed memorable productions such as The Little Foxes, Inherit the Wind, Blithe Spirit, Harvey (twice), Wuthering Heights, and A Majority of One. His artistic range extended onstage as well, with standout performances in Harlequinade playing George Chudleigh, Peg O’ My Heart playing Montgomery Hawks, and The Great Sebastians playing Karel Cerny. A frequent assistant director and set builder, Lumir was known for his steady leadership, attention to detail, and love of storytelling. As the business manager in 1976 Lume Gerner spearheaded a fundraiser for replacing the roof.

Recognized with BLT’s Lifetime Patron Membership in 1982 and the prestigious Gold Key Award in 1991–92, Lumir’s service went far beyond the spotlight. He remained active into the 1980s, coordinating the theater’s Past Presidents and lending his wisdom and experience to the next generation of volunteers.

Lumir Gerner’s decades of contributions reflect not just longevity, but deep devotion. He was a pillar of BLT’s artistic, operational, and community life—a generous spirit whose legacy continues to inspire Boise Little Theater today.
